Inflorescence

Up close and personal with a banana inflorescence (No, not fluorescence). The inflorescence is the purple-red flowering part of the banana tree. The flowers later develop into fruits.

Did you know that bananas are naturally slightly  radioactive? Apparently, it has something to do with their potassium contents. Geiger counters at the ready!
